We took off today on our two-day drive to Greensboro, North Carolina. The plan was to drive as far as we could before we stopped. This was a generically good idea, because we made it much more than 1/2 way the first day. We loved driving through West Virgina. The views were AMAZING. We were driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains and felt like we could keep driving. (Also, there were not a whole lot of places to stop in the mountains). But suddenly it was pitch black, there were no street lights, and the road was down to one lane with construction cones on both sides. That last stretch was brutal. If I had known that, we would have stopped earlier.
We also had trouble finding food. There was a long stretch with nothing until we found a rest stop at almost 10PM. It looked completely closed (most of it was) but we found the Burger King to be open. Thank goodness. A little food was WAY beyond needed.
It was about 1.5 hours between Burger King and the first hotel we could find at the base of the mountains. We arrived really late and immediately crashed.
