Nice, Mean & Accidental Behaviors

Brooke is working on what's naughty and nice. Apparently getting married is "nice" behavior.

Friday Was A Fluke

It was a pretty good sign this weekend when Brooke tool every opportunity to discuss reasons why she should NOT go to school. She wanted to: stay in Michigan, go to the park, go to the toddler story time w Ryan and "just spent time with my Moma". She worked the topic into the ground all weekend.

Ryan caught a cold, so when she woke up this am and told me her throat hurt, I felt horrible for her ... But also slightly suspicious :). I told her we would have a warm breakfast - oatmeal. She then announced "wow! Its starting to feel a little bit better!"

I'm not sure if she was playing me or not. She likely is going to catch Ryan's cold. She never passes on a good virus. I still made her eat oatmeal and still sent her to school. And, she made sure to cry and make me feel guilty during drop off.

Seems like the beginning of another drama-filled week ;)

Mom (to Ryan): Who's my cutie patootie?

Ryan: Brooke!

Brooke: I really like going to story time with Ana. So, on those days I dont want to go to school. I'll go to story time instead.

Story time is a toddler-group Ryan goes to on Monday mornings. During the strike Brooke went with

Optimism

When Brooke wrapped up her first week of preschool, she was at the point where she loved school ... But hated the drop off.

We then had 7 days off due to the strike, with a mid-week (wed) return. It was horrible dropping her off. She was wailing and had to be pried off of me. So, obviously, I was not looking forward to this morning's drop off.

In the am we talked a lot about how fun school was. We also talked about feeling anxious and sad when I leave. But, this am, one thing was different. Ryan came along. On the way out the door he starred to cry. He wanted a backpack like his sister had. I told him he was too little - back packs were for big kids. Brooke followed up by telling him he had to be "6 or 7".

We got to her classroom. I told Brooke to show her brother what a big girl she is. She walked into the room, and then paused to glance back. I could see the doubt in her eyes. I again told her to show her brother how big she is ... And she walked in :)

I hope this is the beginning of drama-free mornings!

Little Picasso: Brooke

You might think we are gearing up for Thanksgiving. But I think we're just tracing our hands. Brooke probably had nothing to better to do since she's shes a pro at this school thing now.

Offically a Preschooler

The morning began on a questionable note, as Brooke needed to be woken up (after a long Labor Day weekend) and took a while to get it together. When she began to appear like herself, it was already time to head off for her first day. She was conflicted. She was definitely excited, but nervous as well. We took a few pictures, and she wanted to make sure to capture the most important thing ... her "sparkly" backpack. And, so I did :)

I wasn't sure which way the day would go as I walked away from her clinging to the hand of a teacher's aid for dear life. But when I came to pick her up her cheeks were rosy, her hair was soaked with sweat, and she had a grin from ear-to-ear. She gave me a thumbs up ...

And handed me her very first preschool art!

I have been informed that the picture includes (from left-to-right): Ryan, Dad, Mom & Brooke. I'm thinking she must have some sort of complex, putting herself at the front of the line and making herself the largest figure ... but I'm more worried about the fact she seems to think I look strikingly similar to Ronald McDonald.

So far she seems excited about the prospect of returning tomorrow and has specifically requested pretzels and cookies in her lunch.

Someone Took Some More Self Portraits ....
