Last Day Surf Camp

Today Brooke, Luke and I walked to Rosie's and had a giant breakfast while Ryan went to his last day of surf camp for the summer.

Ryan on his way back. Looks like he had a blast!

Movies In The Park St Joe

Went to St Joe for dinner and a movie. First to Schu's. It was our first visit ... and a little ridiculous. They had no ability to manage a wait and could not estimate times. We put our name in and when I went back to check 30 Min later they had a ton of empty tables. They seated us, but told us they couldn't take our food order because the kitchen had to catch up.

Either way, dinner turned out fine. Not sure we will return though!

Then we head down to the park to watch Beauty and The Beast. The kids have been fighting against watching this movie for months and we don't know why. They agreed to see it only because it was in the park.  Ryan loved it and proclaimed that several times during the movie (even only a few minutes in!). Brooke said it was "ok" but I think she really liked it too. Luke watched most of it with interest but was alarmed by the scene when Gaston shot The Beast. Because of that he says he didn't like it ;) Overall a great night. Didn't get home until 11:30 pm but the  kids were champs.

First Run .... in a while

Brooke and I went for a 1.5 mile run. I don’t think we’ve run a distance since last years Turkey Trot! She’s been running laps in trampoline, but hasn’t gone out for any long runs. I figured I try to see if she could do 1.5 Miles (also as a basis to check if she could do a 5 k in the next few weeks).

She ran the distance without any issues. She did have a side cramp towards the end of the run (at 1.25 Miles) but I got her to push through and finish the full distance. Hoping to take her out for 2 in the next week and see what happens. A bribe will definitely be necessary.

Bike Champs

This summer Brooke and Ryan (and Jeff!) have been doing a lot of bike riding. They've been riding back and forth to camp and also doing a lot of riding in MI. It's great to see them become more confident riders and also see how much they enjoy biking as a whole! We

Swimming Milestone

After failing to pass on his first attempt in camp, Ryan successfully passed the swim test at Hamlin pool tonight!

Celebrating with some Manjovins.

Home Alone @ Wrigley

Met some friends from Skinner at the Movies in the Park at Wrigley Field. Just waiting for the bus involved a lot of shenanigans.

First Time On A Bike

Luke wasn't a fan of the balance / Strider bike we got him before. We decided to give up and try the regular bike with training wheels.

He did a great job, pedaling naturally :)

Hunt For History

When Brooke's class went downtown to check out some historical landmarks ... a few were missed. Today we decided to check them out. We went to explore the rocks at Tribune Tower and see the original locations of DuSable's trading post and Fort Dearborn.
Rock from the Marquette & Joliet Landing, found at the Tribune Tower
Kids also took a coding class at the Apple store and we all went in to checkout (and get treats) at the Kilwins on Michigan Ave.
Brooke and Ryan used an app to give directions to a "robot" during a coding class at the Apple Store
Took advantage of the nice view outside of the Apple Store

Reds vs Tigers (Last Season Game)

The Reds lost today, but Ryan got a game ball (which, for him, negated the loss). Coach commended him mostly on his positive attitude - as a kid that never complains where he is positioned, is always in a great mood, and always paying attention. He also got 2 hits today. One of those in a clutch time when the team was way behind, runners were on base, and there were 2 outs.

It was a good game for Grandma and Grandpa to come see too! They were there to witness his hits and him getting the game ball ;)

Second to last game of the regular season! Brooke and Luke paying their usual level of attention to the game ;)

Obstacle Course

Today the kids hooked up the lily pad to the Wickham float. Insanity commenced.

After beach time a little bit of a water balloon fight may have happened ;)

Independence Day

Starting off the day at the beach, doing all the beach things.

Dad got on the Lily Pad today!

We decided to go to St Joe for dinner at Silver Beach Pizza. While there, we decided to stay for the fireworks. They were great, and the kids really loved them!

Luke is trying to grow tall enough to take this pic on his own. Not there yet!
Ryan is picking him up :)
While waiting for our table at Silver Beach Pizza, we let the kids ride the merry-go-round. I actually didnt think Brooke would go ... but she did. And, she actually seemed to think it was pretty fun too. Glad the kids are still not "too old" for a merry-go-round.

The theme in St Joe this year is Dragons & Knights. This is definitely right up the kids alley. There are also two castles (one made of wood, one big Lego) that the boys cannot help themelves from crawling all over.

Fireworks in St Joe ended just as the rain started - perfect timing!

Surf Camp + Mom & Luke Date

Ryan and Brooke are off to Surf Camp

While the big kids were are camp, Luke and I went to Rosie's
(which is pretty much our go-to when the kids are at camp!)

After breakfast Luke and I colored on the beach for a while. It was a perfect day ... but he quickly lost attention. Shocker.

When the kids got out of camp the Kona Ice truck was there. He was just about the least friendly person I've ever seen running a kid-related, tourist destination retail shop. The kids were happy with their Ice, I was not happy with the attitude.
