The Kids Get The Royal Treatment ... For Mom's Birthday

A local store had a "customer appreciation night" with lots of cool stuff for the kids. Crafts and balloons, cupcakes and cookies ... and face painting! Brooke was so excited, she waited in line patiently (by herself) for about 30 minutes. When she was done, Ryan couldnt take his eyes off of her. She kept pressing for him to get it done and told the artist (Mary Macaroni) repeatedly how bad her brother wanted some painting. Brooke said he wanted a "flower on his arm". I suggested something else and we decided on a football.

So Ryan gets up there and I say "Do you want painting on your arm?" and he points to his face and says "eyes!". So, we decide to try. I figured he'd never sit through it, but he knew exactly what he wanted. Afterwards he couldnt stop looking at himself in the mirror :) Both kids had an awesome time.

Afterwards we went out to dinner to celebrate Mom's birthday ... followed up by presents and cupcakes. I seriously hope these kids know how awesome they have it ;)

Oh fiddlesticks!

What if a bug thought my nose was a flower and landed on it?

I drew a sun to make the world shine

Dad: would you rather have one dollar or five dollars?

Brooke: I would like 15.

Ryan notices an automatic gate

Ryan: gate!

Mom:  yes, it's closing

(gate closes)

Ryan: did it!

I don't love Chicago.  I only love Michigan.

Soccer

Today the kids started soccer. Brooke is an old pro, but Ryan is a total rookie. Although she skipped the last season (for ballet), Brooke jumped right back in. She made "like 10 goals" and remembered all the skills and drills. It was all new to Ryan, who spent the first 5 minutes hiding behind Mom's legs. He got into it pretty quick though and I think he will really get into it.

It's great to finally find something the two can do together. Although they're on different teams, it gives them some common ground. Brooke jumped right into coach mode and has been giving Ryan tips :)
