The Flu?

Ryan came home from school on Monday with a scratchy throat. He stayed home on Tuesday because he developed a fever. He was pretty groggy and slept a lot of the day but overall was in a decent mood. Last night his fever was worse when he went to bed and kind of escalated over the night. We actually woke him up in the middle of the night to give him ibuprofen because his fever was so high.

He came down this morning crying holding his neck and gasping for breath. So we took him to the ER at the Children's Hospital and spent about half the day there. Overall he checked out fine except for the fever and sore throat - we later we got a test result back that he has influenza A. While we were at the hospital the doctor essentially told us she didn't think it was the flu because they barely had any flu for the most part the whole season was over - it peaked early and ended early. She did say there was a lot of crazy viral stuff going around, and that most kids came in did not have Covid but did have some pretty bad viruses and she assumed that's what Ryan had.

Of course when they kept warning all of us to go and get our flu shots I was too worried about Covid vaccines and Covid boosters and so the only one in the whole family who got a flu shot was me … and it was kind of an accident.

So now we have a kid in the house with the flu. I've actually never seen him so sick before. And we have three other members in the house who do not have their flu shot. Hoping for the best here!
