It took Ryan over a year to grow his hair out. He was very proud of his long hair, and often used it as a way to describe how he is special or different. That’s why it was such a shock when he made a random decision to cut it all off and get a Mohawk after seeing Luke’s haircut. And we did it that same day. Pretty big change!

1st Day: Mostly Successful
We picked up Luke at 12 (his camp is 1/2 day) and he was in a MOOD. Camp appears to have been good, but he was cranky. He yelled at us about everything he could think of. We decided to drive far for lunch so he'd take a nap. He fell asleep a few minutes before we got home.
Hopefully the little guy adjusts, or we will all have a rough go of it!
Brooke and Ryan had a great first day. They came home with smiles, names of new friends, and funny stories.
2/3 isn't bad :)

Hamlin Camp - Morning One
Luke was a different story. We left him crying (the only kid in his group crying) as we walked out the door. Out of his group of 12, there appear to be only 2 boys. He didn't even seem to be aware of that. Yet ;)

Ryan’s Summer Bucket List
Brought home on the Last Day of School...
Ryan's bucket list for the summer: 1) Do a knee drop flip (trampoline) 2) Nintendo.
Big goals ;)

Ryan's Class Signatures
On the last day of school Ryan came home with this cool card/book. Inside each friend had written a personal statement, like the signing of a yearbook. Very cute!
Ryan’s Last Day of 1st Grade
When I came in to pick up Ryan on his last day, the room was pretty cleared out. He did not want to leave! Ryan stalled as long as he could, working on an activity sheet. He literally was the last kid to walk out - even though he knew all of his friends were at the park playing.
He had a wonderful year with Ms Kinsella and I think really has a new love of learning and a real connection with Skinner North. Next year will be hard to complete with this year ;)

Father’s Day
Took Dad to the Budweiser Brickhouse Tavern for Fathers Day brunch. Met Grandma & Grandpa there. After eating, the boys played in the fountains at the park. Thus, they’re both soaking wet in this picture ;)

End of Year Art
Both of the kids art teachers assemble and keep their work. We don't see a whole lot during the year. Then, its sent home at the end of the year. The weird thing is that there are no dates (was this beginning of the year or end of the year?) or context (i.e. what was the purpose, intent and assignment here?). Here is a compilation of the work both Brooke and Ryan did this year.
Fairy Tale Friday
Brooke's class invited parents in to hang out and read / hear all of the writing they have been working on this year. Ryan, Luke and I got to hear Brooke read several of her stories. One about Trampoline, a fiction work about an ice cream cone, and 2 about the city of Chicago.

Ryan: End of 1st Grade
Ryan came home with a whole packet that was supposed to be a recap/highlight of his year. About 1/3 of it was filled in. Not sure if he had noting to say or if he didnt have time. These are the few sheets he completed. Perhaps not a whole lot happened this year ;)

A Poem For Luke (& Ryan)
Brooke wrote this poem and drew this picture for Luke. Ryan saw it on the table and added his name to it ;)
