And Now We Have Two

Brooke is never one to pass up a nice, juicy virus. If anyone with in a mile of her is sick, she will get it. So when Ryan turns up with Hand-foot-and-mouth disease we cross our fingers, but hope for the worst. Brooke ran a 104 fever for about 24 hours and had a horrible, sweaty night of sleep. Just waiting for the blisters to appear ....

Ear Infection Problem ... Or Not?

Ryan had a pretty high fever yesterday and I was worried something was wrong with his ear infection. He has been on antibiotics for several days and it seems like it should have been better ... so I called the dr office and they suggested I bring him in. So I brought him in and his ear looked better, but the doctor did notice he had a lot of teeth coming in. That could create the fever and the crabby mood. So, I was relieved. Problem solved, right?

Nope. Later in the day I notice he has some blisters on his feet. Thats strange, I think. Then I notice a few on his hand. Hmm. Even more strange. Then something clicks in my head, I head to Dr Google ... and guess what?

Hand-foot-mouth disease.

Ear Infection

Ryan has been whiney and crabby and clingy. I figured it would be a good idea to get his ears checked since he has had an ear infection in the past so I brought him in for a check up. The Dr said his ear was starting to look red. Didnt really explain why he has been so crabby for the past week, but either way he did have the beginning of an infection. The doctor gave us some antibiotics and sent us on our way.

This is the 2nd diagnosis of an ear infection for him, but we think he might have had one or two that has been undiagnosed. Brooke never had ear infections, so it figures that Ryan does ... since they have to do the whole ying/yang thing in any way they possibly can.

Park

We celebrated the unseasonably warm weather with our first all-family trip to the park this morning! Everyone had a blast. There was lots of sliding and running, but not enough getting tired and worn out.

To the park!

I sure do hope they blow off some of this extra energy while they're there!

Brooke: Today is my luckiest day ever.

"First I'm gonna pick flowers. Then, I'm gonna decide to go swimming and give the flowers some water."

Brooke: Do you know what I'm gonna be for Christmas? A butterfly.
Mom: Maybe you can be that for Halloween.
Brooke: No. For Halloween I'm gonna be a fairy.

Big Guy Doing Stairs

Ryan made it all the way up the stairs, not crawling, but walking. He has to do everything big-boy style, so him walking up (and down) the stairs is not that surprising. Im not sure when Brooke started walking up stairs, but I dont think she was 16 months old :)

Where Did My Dinner Go?

Both kids are sick and the dog hasn't gotten off the couch today. It's noon! It definitely has been an out-of-sorts kind of weekend.

Two Sick Babies

They've shared the most recent cooties and both kids are miserable. Ryan has his usual problem: a stuffy nose that makes it hard to sleep with a paci in his mouth. Brooke has her usual problem: a hacking cough stimulated by her asthma. This one has been bad enough to actually break blood vessels in her neck.

She's on an oral steroid this time, as the doctor notice some wheezing. She's also been getting a nebulizer treatment every 4 hours.

We just got the neb a get weeks ago. Prior to that she was using a chamber and an inhaler. The nebulizer has made her life a lot better. She gets it when she goes to bed and doesn't get up (coughing) till the am. With the chamber, on a bad night, we were giving it to her every 3-4 hours all night. Nobody got sleep!

So, though nobody likes to be sick, I'm glad we are managing it a little better around here nowadays.
